Redefining Business Success In The Modern World

Mike Stevenson

With a diverse educational background spanning arts, philosophy (both Eastern and Western), and psychology, along with extensive professional experience in marketing, sales, and business, I have formulated my own theory on the complex and interrelated factors that influence consumer behaviour, brand growth, and long term business success within the modern world.


Over the past 10 years, my experience has resulted in me developing bespoke business strategies and implementing operational processes that integrate creative artistry, marketing activities, and behavioural insights. Combining these factors has enabled me to develop a skill set in crafting emotionally resonant brand narratives alongside implementing comprehensive operational processes that foster a sense of community by aligning with consumers' deepest desires and aspirations that ultimately directly contribute to long-term business success.


It is therefore my intention to use my Powering Thoughts platform as the forum for my further exploration into my passion for the intersection between the unique strokes of colour that make up our individual psychology and the black-and-white behavioural data of the masses.


I aim to vocalise my theory across several blog posts, insight pieces, and podcast episodes that I have been working on over the past few years, covering the following topics:


  1. How incorporating a solid and defined brand story, strategy, and WHY across all dimensions of business operations is the basis of building the magic that propels business success and customer loyalty.

  2. Social Media's role in surveillance capitalism and how the influencer economy has become the modern “rat race” that has facilitated the crisis of individual meaning.

  3. How business strategies post-COVID require a holistic approach focusing less on short-term transactional models and more on long-term retention strategies and customer journeys that drive loyalty, advocacy, and referrals.

  4. How sporadic sales and promotions are actually “cheap” manipulations that devalue far more than your product it also devalues your loyal consumers. Blindly inflating total sales whilst neglecting the number of leavers ultimately decreases the LTV of your entire customer base. Sales and promotions must be partnered with long-term retention strategies for rewarding loyalty for if you only incentivise new people to join on price then both the old and the new will also leave for the exact same reason.

  5. How the accelerated developments of AI and the unregulated habitual use of increasingly advanced technology all competing for our attention are and will further impact society and the mental health of every new generation.

  6. How we can incorporate all of the above into our brand and business strategies to realign and grow ethically alongside our consumer base, rather than viewing them as dehumanised binary sales figures in spreadsheets and monthly reports, which ultimately has an adverse effect on customer loyalty.

Furthermore, in today's fast-paced world, consumers are bombarded with countless messages from brands each competing for their attention. With the rise of social media and digital marketing, the competition has only intensified, making it more challenging for businesses to stand out and create long-term relationships with their customers.


However, my experience has led me to believe that brands which adopt a customer-centric approach and prioritise exceptional service, storytelling, and customer retention are much better positioned to foster a strong sense of community, cultivate loyalty, and inspire advocacy from their customers. This not only reduces customer churn but also increases referrals, leading to high customer lifetime value, lower customer acquisition costs, and sustainable long-term growth for the brand.


It is therefore my ultimate goal to assist businesses in developing and implementing these comprehensive strategies that enable them to forge meaningful and authentic connections with their customers. By doing so, they can cultivate strong customer loyalty, drive more referrals, and achieve sustainable long-term growth within the modern world.
